Andrea Alvarez – Workshop Leader & Board Member

Andrea Alvarez runs the PPT 101 workshop for Fireborn Institute. Andrea is a veteran special needs teacher, director, and advocate. She is dedicated to empowering parents because their voices are the best tools when advocating for their children. Andrea began her career as a teaching assistant and counselor at a residential home for children. In 1996, Andrea began teaching at a non-public school in California called North Hills. At North Hills, Andrea worked as a Special Education Teacher, Resource Specialist, Assistant Director, and Director of Special Education for both the middle and high schools. As the Director of Special Education, Andrea led, wrote, advocated, and attended dozens of Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s). In 2006, Andrea moved back to the east coast, where she became an advocate for students with special needs.

Andrea has a BA from the University of Hartford and a Masters in Special Education and a General Education Teaching Certificate from California State University, Northridge.

Andrea is married to Jay Wright and together they have two children.
Katherine Firestone – Founder, CEO, & Chairman of the Board

Katherine Firestone – Founder, CEO, & Chairman of the Board

Katherine initiated her career teaching elementary school and coaching middle and upper school athletics at the Greenwich Country Day School. In 2010, she began working at the Southfield Center for Development as an Executive Functions Coach where she taught middle and high school students how to: manage their time, plan, prioritize, organize, break big tasks down into manageable steps, stop procrastinating, focus, and develop effective study skills. A lifelong supporter of community service, Katherine has volunteered, started, and run several community organizations, such as CareyServes where she organized volunteer activities and raised money for charities as well as Silver Hill Hospital where she volunteered with the art therapist and mentored the teenage in-patients. In 2013, Katherine obtained her MBA and shifted to work in finance as an investment analyst in order to learn how successful organizations operate.

Katherine believes that 'doing good is good for business' and therefore decided to use the skills learned at business school and in the for-profit arena to help improve the current educational ecosystem.

Katherine graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008 with highest distinction and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa with dual majors in Psychology and Rhetoric. Her honors thesis on recognition memory is published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition. Katherine earned her MBA from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, where business is taught with humanity in mind.
Frank Osborn – Board Member

Frank Osborn – Board Member

Frank Osborn is a member of the Board of Directors. He was the President and CEO of Qantum Communications Corporation, a broadcasting company, for 13 years. Prior to Qantum, Frank founded, ran, and sold two other broadcasting companies, Aurora Communications and Osborn Communications. He has served on the Boards of two public companies, TB Woods Corporation and Price Communications. He has also served the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Fairfield County Connecticut in several capacities, including Chairman of the Board. Frank has also worked on the Boards of the National Association of Broadcasters, HBD Industries Inc, and the Advisory Board of Nielsen Audio.

Frank received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1973, he obtained his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to business school, Frank served in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Frank has been married to his wife, Jody, for over 40 years and has five children.
Joe Perry - Board Member

Joe Perry - Board Member

Joe Perry, a member of the Board of Directors, is currently the Head of School at Derby Academy in Hingham, Massachusetts, a PK-8th grade independent school. He has worked in education for over 20 years and has taught at every level from the elementary grades through college. For the majority of his career, he has been involved with students in the 4th-9th grades. Joe has worked at Greens Farms Academy, Miss Porter's School, Binghamton University (SUNY), Greenwich Country Day School, and Ridgefield Academy. His experience includes Assistant Head of School, Head of Middle and Upper Schools, Secondary School Placement Director, Director of Professional Development, Director of Endowment Fund, Department Chair, Admissions Assistant, Camp Director, Coach and Student Advisor. Joe is the former Board Chair of The Children's Day School in Greenwich, CT and Joe has served on Boards and been involved in various other community non-profits. Joe has also been a presenter at numerous educational conferences, been on school accreditation committees, and continues to teach and coach. Joe has worked with hundreds of students and parents over the years.

Joe has a BA from Connecticut College in Anthropology and Zoology and is currently completing a MEd from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. In addition, Joe is the founder of Perry Education Group, a consulting firm that helps families find educational options for a variety of students. He has been with his wife, Karen, for over 20 years and has four children.
Dan Scott - Board Member

Dan Scott - Board Member

Daniel J. Scott is the Founder and Principal of Scott Law PLLC, where he serves as the personal legal and business advisor to high net worth individuals, families and businesses. Prior to starting his own business, Dan spent over 12 years navigating the large firm circuit. He began his career at Sullivan & Crowell LLP in 2002, was Counsel at Chadbourne & Park LLP and a Partner at Pryor Cashman LLP. Before joining Fireborn, Dan served as a member of the Board of Children of the City, a New York based charity committed to helping children and families overcome poverty.

Dan received his BA from Manhattan College, where he was Valedictorian of the Class of 1999. In 2002, he received his JD from St. John’s University School of Law. Dan is married and has two children.
